Director, Surgical Services

Summary

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Director provides system-level leadership and overall responsibility for the management of Surgical Services units on a 24-hour basis.  Participates in the development of, in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer, and oversees the implementation and evaluation of programs and processes to provide necessary patient care services using appropriate resources. Inherent in the role is active involvement and leadership in quality improvement activities that enhance patient care and improve service. Additionally, the Director participates in the development of and implementation of care and performance standards to ensure that identified patient care needs and regulatory requirements are met and/or exceeded. Optimal patient care and cost effective management is maintained through utilization of data and information from quality assessment and standards monitoring. Supports and contributes to ongoing changes within the organization. Provides guidance and direction to subordinate staff by organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling activities for the care of patients, the development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and the fostering of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required, Master's degree preferred.  Requires five (5) years of Surgical Services nursing experience with two (2) years management experience.  Must have current or compact RN licensure in the State of North Carolina.  BLS, ACLS certification required.  CNOR preferred.
