Summary

The Nurse Intern is a member of the nursing staff that assists the registered nurse in providing optimal/quality patient care consistent with the hospital mission, nursing philosophy, objectives, standards, and in collaboration with other clinical disciplines. The objective of the Nurse Intern Program is to: refine skills used in the nursing process; develop cognitive and psychomotor skills; foster an understanding of the Intern’s role within the interdisciplinary team in developing the plan of care; develop priority setting and decision-making skills; help the Intern identify his/her clinical strengths and weaknesses; identify learning needs and ways to address them. Provides professional nursing care to patients assigned to a specific Nursing Unit. Provides patient care under the supervision of the RN Preceptor and within the parameters of this assignment of responsibility, according to prescribed, delegated medical regimen and the hospital policies. Incumbents are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing nursing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Nursing Enrollment in an accredited ADN program.  Successfully complete his/her first level in an Associate Degree nursing program and be currently enrolled in that same program. High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a Level I Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Currently, listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect, or misappropriation of property. BCLS certification must be current and maintained.
